Recreational Marijuana in NY
The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA) legalizes cannabis for adults 21 years of age or older. This law sets out a framework that will comprehensively regulate cannabis in New York State in a manner that will protect public health and safety, while promoting social equity and economic development. The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) will license cultivators, processors, distributors and dispensaries to grow and sell cannabis in New York. Each business type will require a seed to sale software system.
Medical Marijuana in NY
In 2014 New York adopted the Compassionate Care Act (Bill A6357E) with Regulatory Amendments (12/27/17) and the Medical Marijuana Program Regulations (1/3/2018). New York State's Medical Marijuana Program allows patients who suffer from specific serious conditions to be certified by a practitioner to receive medical marijuana products for medical use. Each registered organization is permitted by statute to have up to four dispensing facilities. Each facility must utilize a seed to sale tracking system to report sales through the prescription monitoring portal.
