Arizona Recreational Marijuana

Arizona voters approved Adult Use or recreational marijuana through a ballot initiative in 2020. Proposition 207 (the Marijuana Legalization Initiative) states that AZDHS began accepting applications for retail licenses on January 19, 2021. Read Prop 207 here. Arizona will also require all medicated products be tested for microbials, heavy metals, pesticides, and THC content to help ensure safe products are the only products available on the market.

Who Oversees the AZ Marijuana Program?

Two state agencies oversee different aspects of the Arizona recreational marijuana program. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) regulates the patient and caregiver registry, purchasing limitations, cultivations, and processors, while the Arizona Department of Revenue regulates the collection of recreational sales tax from dispensaries.
