Medical Marijuana in Texas

Texas approved the Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 487 as of September 1, 2019. Under the act, the department of public safety (DPS) administers the Compassionate Use Program (CUP). Through the program, physicians can prescribe low THC products to patients with specific medical conditions.

Who Oversees the Medical Marijuana Program?

The department of public safety (DPS) currently oversees the medical marijuana program in Texas.DPS also manages the licensing of organizations that dispense low-THC cannabis to patients in the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas.

Texas Medical Sale Restrictions

The law currently states “The dispensed product may contain no more than 0.5% by weight of tetrahydrocannabinols (THC) and not less than 10% by weight of cannabidiol (CBD).”
